What is the directory?

The store directory showcases some of the amazing stores using Big Cartel, and let’s you browse and search to discover new stores you might enjoy.

How do I get added to the directory?

Having your store listed in the directory is completely optional. To be included, simply upload a small graphic on the Store > Promote page of your admin area to represent your store. Don’t have a store yet? Start one up today »

How do I get featured on the main directory page?

Easy, be random! For each category (bands, clothing, etc.), we feature a few Platinum and Diamond stores completely at random. Just a little way to say thanks.

What can I search for in the directory?

Our powerful directory search lets you find stores based on their name, product names and descriptions, categories, artists (if it’s a record label), country, currency, and store type. Ex: “portishead”, “tees”, “USD”, “canada”

Why isn’t my store showing up in searches?

When you first add your store to the directory, it will show up immediately when browsing but it can take up to 30 minutes for it to show up in our search engine.

Why isn’t my image displaying correctly?

It sounds like there might be an error with your image.

Big Cartel Blog

Any time we stumble upon a store we think is amazing we’ll feature it in our blog. We base this on the same things as the home page featured store, but it’s a way for us to show off even more stores.

We like to give our stores some love through our Big Cartel Twitter as well. Follow us and help spread the word.

Big Cartel Newsletter

Once in a while we send out a newsletter featuring a few stores we feel represent what Big Cartel is all about.

Want to let your customers buy gift certificates for your store to give away to friends and family? PayPal makes this a simple process. Here’s what you do:

1. Click here to get to the Gift Certificate page of your PayPal account. (or go My Account > Profile > Redeem Gift Certificates and Points if not able to link directly)
2. Click Create a gift certificate now and fill out the Gift Certificate form making sure to put your Big Cartel store’s url for Shopping URL. Be sure to check out all of your options, and check out the Gift Certificate Manual for more info.
3. Click Create Button Now and PayPal will generate HTML you can then copy & paste into your store or any other website, blog, MySpace page, whatever.

That’s it! Now when someone receives a gift certificate to your store, they can enter their redemption code when they checkout. Easy peasy!

Discount codes are available to all Platinum and Diamond stores, and they’re a great way to entice new buyers and reward loyal customers by creating discount codes to give them a percentage off their purchase.

Just head over to the Store > Promote section in your store admin and enter a code and discount percentage. Can’t think of a good code? Just leave it blank and we’ll make one up for you. Add as many codes as you’d like, and start handing them out.

Now when a customer goes to checkout, they’ll see a new field to enter an optional discount code. When they enter a valid code, they’ll see the discounted total in the cart and again on the PayPal checkout page. Easy peasy!
